Popularised by James Bond in the 1962 film Dr. No, where Ian Fleming’s fictional spy orders a “medium dry vodka martini...shaken not stirred”. The vodka martini starts its life in the 1943 Cocktail Digest by Oscar Haimo where it’s named a Kangaroo Kicker and is said to have been named in honour of the Australians who fought alongside the allies during world war two.
